General Choir Policies
This page summarizes core policies for Siskiyou Singers members. Each season the choir publishes a Singer Handbook with complete details (schedule, procedures, contacts, and any season‑specific updates). All singers are expected to read the current season’s handbook at the start of the term.
📘 Review the 2025–26 Singer Handbook
The handbook is the authoritative reference each season. Please download and review it at the start of the term.
Membership & Auditions
- Membership is by audition at the Artistic Director’s discretion. Re‑auditions may be requested after extended absences.
Attendance & Rehearsals
- Consistent attendance and punctuality are essential to performance quality.
- If you must miss a rehearsal, notify your section leader in advance. After two or more absences, you may be asked to demonstrate readiness.
Weekly Communications
- Read weekly emails from the Artistic Director and Board President for rehearsal and choir updates.
- Add director@siskiyousingers.org and president@siskiyousingers.org to your contacts.
Rehearsal Readiness
- Be ready to begin promptly at 7:00pm.
- When the Jeopardy theme music plays, finish conversations and prepare to focus on rehearsal.
- By the end of the song, be looking at the director, ready to start.
Sectionals & Retreat
- Each season includes a sectional at a section leader’s house and a retreat for the whole choir.
- The retreat is usually on a Saturday, 9:00am–3:00pm, focused on really learning the music together.
- Ask about and save these dates—they are important for your preparation.
Preparation & Practice
- Come to rehearsal with notes and rhythms learned; rehearsals focus on ensemble work (blend, interpretation, diction).
- Practice tools (e.g., BandLab) are available but optional—use any method that helps you learn effectively.
Music & Folders
- Performance music must be in a black folder.
- You may borrow music (included in registration; pencil marks only, return at term end) or purchase your own set.
Etiquette & Professionalism
- Please avoid fragrances; many singers are sensitive/allergic.
- Silence phones/devices during rehearsals; do not bring devices on stage during concerts.
- Listen for instructions; keep side conversations to a minimum to respect the ensemble’s time.
Fees & Scholarships
- Member fee is $35 per term (Fall/Spring). Due by the third rehearsal.
- Limited scholarships are available—ask early if you need assistance.
Ticket Sales & Outreach
- Members help promote concerts, sell tickets, and support community outreach performances.
Concert Dress
- Formal black attire for all singers (see the current handbook for full guidelines and acceptable options).
Section Leaders & Communication
- Each section has a leader who tracks attendance, coordinates sectionals, and is your first point of contact for questions or absences.
